ELKMONT FALL FORECAST

The maps Hill Spirit has seen suggest a dry fall with cooler than average temperatures for October but a warm November. Late October could be 10 degrees cooler.  That means the Boo at the Boss fun might need a coat.  There is also a chance of something trying to develop in the Gulf in about 10 days.

November has our rainy season starting about the 15th. November temps look to be warmer than average until Thanksgiving.  You might want to make sure those outdoor "getting ready for winter" jobs get done in the next few weeks if you aren't a fan of cool, damp weather.

Hill Spirit has finished trimming up the bushes and trees for the winter.  Want to get those outdoor washing jobs, such as washing windows and cleaning the garage done too in the next few weeks. Still haven't gotten my strawberry bed planted or the lettuce/spinach but think there is still time.

The most interesting thing that Hill Spirit has read is the statement about El Ninos and what that means for us this winter.

Weatherbell is predicting a colder than normal winter starting in January (perhaps Christmas time.. hoping, hoping). However, when you add the statement "... the El Nino will peak in the late fall and El Ninos usually turn wet all across the south with an energized southern storm track," Hill Spirit thinks the snow lovers in Elkmont will have lots to be happy about this winter.  We are due a big ice storm so don't forget to prepare, just in case.

Here are the early ideas about the winter.  These are subject to change until Weatherbell comes out with its final forecast.  As you see in these latest Weatherbell maps, the forecast is trending colder still.
  • Overall, a snowy, colder than normal winter is expected in the South and East
  • Core of winter will be later rather then earlier
  • December could be very warm with February very cold
  • El NiƱo is a big influence but not the only factor

Take these fall months to get your home ready and give thought to a secondary source of heat. Hill Spirit is looking at a ventless natural gas heater to mount on the wall or a standby generator to go with all the extra propane bought during the pre-buy program. Hill Spirit doesn't like to be cold.
