Danny Crawford won
1,713 votes, or 54.5 percent, to current council member Chris Seibert’s 1,430 votes, or 45.5 percent. Eighteen out of 19 boxes were counted. Crawford will face Democrat Henry White in a special general election Feb. 16 for the seat.
Only 11.32 percent of the 27,784 voters in the county who reside in District 5 voted Tuesday. turnout was slightly higher than the prediction of 10 percent. The Elkmont turnout fell in line with the county's with 199 of our 1800 registered Republicans voting.
Crawford said he is going to take a few days off from campaigning to relax with family. If elected, he’s planning to start a coalition within the state Legislature for budget reform without raising taxes if he is elected, he said.
“Budget reform seems to be the main concern,” Crawford said. “We have to solve it by living within our means.”
