FIRE IN ELKMONT

A warehouse fire in downtown Elkmont on Sunday is being investigated by the state fire marshal’s office.

The blaze destroyed an old cotton warehouse at the corner of Sandlin and Upper Fort Hampton roads, according to Elkmont Fire Chief Michael Carter. He estimated the building to be 3,000 to 4,000 square feet.

Carter said the call came at about 1:30 a.m. and the fire was fully involved by the time personnel arrived. The warehouse, he said, was no longer being used for cotton, but instead contained old car parts, plywood and antiques.
