Name: John Wesley "Johnny" Thornton Dates: Birth date: January 3, 1951 Death date: May 13, 2012 Obituary: John Wesley 'Johnny' Thornton, 61, of Athens, left this walk of life on May 13,2012, at home after a battle with lung cancer. Johnny was born on January 3, 1951 to Leonard and Christine Thornton. Johnny is a member of Truth Baptist Church in Athens. Johnny was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his daylilies.  Services will be Wednesday. May 16, 2012 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel with Donald Terry officiating. Burial will be at Dement Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Johnny is survived by his wife, Donna Thornton, stepsons Michael Nave, and wife Summer, and Matthew Nave, and wife April, son, Trent Thornton and daughter, Brandi Hewett, all of Athens. Grandchildren, Carly, Gage, Madison, and Jace, all of Athens. Johnny is also survived by brothers, Glenn Thornton, of Huntsville and Stanley Thornton, of Decatur, sisters, Peggy Lewter and husband Ronald, of West Limestone, and Sandra Walker and husband Paul, of Elkmont and a host of nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers are Ronald Lewter, Paul Walker, Joe Campbell, Ricky Adams, Ricky Roberts, and Will Russell. Honorary Pallbearer will be Travis Lewter. Special appreciation to Hospice of Limestone County, friends, family, and everyone at Truth Baptist Church.
