SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

Now - Thursday, Jan 23, 4:00am
...BITTERLY COLD AIR MOVING INTO THE AREA ONCE AGAIN BY THURSDAY...
A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE TENNESSEE VALLEY REGION TONIGHT WITH ANOTHER SURGE OF COLD ARCTIC AIR EXPECTED BY THURSDAY. TEMPERATURES ON THURSDAY MORNING WILL BE IN THE LOWER TO MID 20S AND WILL REMAIN NEARLY STEADY THROUGH THE DAY. COMBINING THESE COLD TEMPERATURES WITH NORTHWEST WINDS AT 15 MPH WITH SOME GUSTS AROUND 30 MPH...WILL RESULT IN WIND CHILL VALUES THROUGHOUT THE DAY INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS.

FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE THURSDAY EVENING...THE COLDEST WIND CHILL VALUES MAY DROP TO BETWEEN ZERO AND FIVE DEGREES ABOVE ZERO IN NORTH ALABAMA. PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS MAY HAVE WIND CHILL VALUES RANGING FROM ZERO TO FIVE DEGREES BELOW ZERO. WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DIMINISH BY AROUND MIDNIGHT AND TEMPERATURES BY FRIDAY MORNING ARE EXPECTED TO FALL TO ZERO TO FIVE ABOVE ZERO IN SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AND TO BETWEEN FIVE AND TEN ABOVE ZERO IN NORTH ALABAMA.

DUE TO THE VERY COLD AIR MOVING INTO THE REGION...IT IS IMPORTANT TO PREPARE NOW AND PROTECT PIPES AND OUTDOOR PETS. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU DRESS IN SEVERAL LAYERS AND WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.
