The world we live in is unpredictable and keeping our children safe is becoming a greater challenge.
The Limestone County School System was the first in the
state of Alabama to have an armed school resource officer at every
campus, and now they are breaking ground again by implementing a technology that will equip teachers to fight back against
attackers.
“Not only does it allow teacher to notify authorities from any room
it empowers teachers to fight back,” said Superintendent Sisk. “If
somebody comes to Limestone County and tries to hurt our kids, we will
defend them.”
The SafeDefend system will be fully implemented in the early part of 2016. This technology comes in the form of a safe that will be in every room in the Limestone County School System. The
device aims to shorten response time, and protect student life all at
the touch of a finger.
Another aspect of the system provides teachers and staff with a fingerprint-activated safe that
holds gel pepper spray, tactical batons and other self-defense tools to
help teachers protect students.
Terry Zills, an investigator with the Franklin County District
Attorney's Office, trains Limestone County teachers on the use of
tactical batons Tuesday at Elkmont High School.
Alabama Trooper Tim Beecham trains Limestone County teachers on using pepper spray Tuesday at Elkmont High School.
