The Hill Spirit posted several months ago that weather patterns were looking like a cold, snowy winter. We don't really button our houses up for the winter here in the South and "winterize" during the fall months. Most of the time our six weeks of winter don't dip below freezing so it often isn't worth the effort. However, it may make a huge difference this winter. After you read this, you might want to be like the "ant" and make some preparations for cold, snowy weather. If you don't know the story of the ant and the grasshopper, click HERE. Great story that applies to many of life's trials.
Back to the winter forecast - Here is the latest from weatherbell.com
"fairly good agreement on a much colder winter than last year. The idea I am looking at is not constant pounding cold, but perhaps out of the 5 months we are looking at as the cold season (November-March), 60-70% of the time colder than normal in the South and East with warmth over the Northern Plains toward the Pacific Northwest. Like the last 2 cold El Nino winters (in all fairness '06-'07 had a great 30-45 day stretch), there is liable to be a stretch where winter will be given up on as it was in '09-'10, but If there is warmth early, there is liable to be stubborn cold late."
