DRINK SASSAFRAS TEA IN ELKMONT

A cup of sassafras root tea has been a traditional spring tonic in the South for hundreds of years. A pot of sassafras simmering on the back burner was a part of the home medicine for the early American colonists, who learned of it's use from the Iroquois and Seneca tribes.

In honor of this centuries old tradition, the Elkmont Historical Committee and Limestone County Parks are inviting you to come to the Sassafras Tea Celebration, April 30 in Elkmont from 10am - noon.

Sassafras Roots

Over in the railroad depot, enjoy a cup of sassafras tea with some favorite southern treats.  Walk the Richard Martin trail and experience the woods coming to life with spring wildflowers, red buds and dogwoods.

While you are there, visit Belle Chevre. Paper Trail Antiques and Aardvark Tees are also great places to wander into.  If you get hungry while you are here, Gin House and Elkmont Subs a mile to the west are good options for you to explore.
