Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Black, 99 of Athens, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Limestone Health Facility. Mrs. Black was born in Limestone County January 22, 1917 to Leo Hargrove and Dolly Mae Cantrell Hargrove. She loved quilting, and sewing. She was a Alabama fan.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 12 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Ben Holt and Ronnie Holt officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Roselawn Cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Theo Black , 1 son, Douglas Black, 3 grandsons, Ricky Black, Scott Black, Jeff Smith, 1 daughter-in-law, Frances Isbell Black, 1 son-in-law, Bobby Smith, 2 brothers and 6 sisters.
She is survived by 2 sons, Ronald Black (Juanita) of Nashville, TN; Archie Black (Paula) of Fruitland, FL; 4 daughters, Shirley Smith of Franklin, TN; Jane Dilworth (Jerry) of Athens, AL; Peggy Holt (Ronnie) of Elkmont; Cathy Croley (Andy) of Dunn, NC; and daughter-in-law, Frances Black of Athens, AL; 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren (many live in the Elkmont area).
Pallbearers
will be Doug Black, Gary Black, Ryan Black, Kevin Bailey, Rhett Bailey,
Chance Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Croley and Jared
Bailey.
