ELKMONT STORMS?

Weather update from Limestone County EMA regarding this afternoon and evening:

We would like to provide you with a brief update on the potential for strong to marginally severe thunderstorms across the central Tennessee Valley this afternoon and evening.

1. A weakening line of showers/thunderstorms will continue to push eastward across the Lower Mississippi Valley region this morning. Although this weakening trend is expected to continue through the morning...regeneration of thunderstorms is expected along a boundary associated with this activity as it moves into northwest Alabama between 2-4 pm.

2. Scattered thunderstorms along this boundary will continue to advance eastward through the late afternoon and early evening hours. Due to a southwest-to-northeast orientation of the boundary, the threat for storms will end early in the evening for northwest Alabama but may last until late evening for northeast Alabama.

3. Although the area coverage is expected to be low, atmospheric conditions do support a threat for strong to marginally severe thunderstorms, with the primary hazards coming from damaging winds around 60 mph, hail up to 1 inch in diameter and frequent cloud to ground lightning.

4. A few showers will likely occur during the early morning hours on Tuesday, until the arrival of a cold front around sunrise.
