FIRST WINTER FORECAST

Summer weather is here and thoughts of cold winter weather is far away.  However, winter is only about 33 weeks away.  Hill Spirit has been reading my favorite weather site, Weatherbell.com.  They have a great track record of predicting long term weather trends.  It's seven months away but their winter forecast (published April 29) is out.  If you use propane for your heating needs, it will save you a lot of money to use your company's prebuy program.

Forecast Highlights:
  • Another major cold winter in the making.
    • Major cold is likely, but details will be different than last year
  • Snowfall should be above normal yet again.

The Verdict:
For the U.S., another major winter is on the way for many from the Plains eastward. Right now we are centering it over the Ohio Valley, but the worry is that while the core will turn out colder than what is predicted at this time, the variance in where is the problem. This looks like it will be quite wet also so snowfall is well above normal. The message from this point is that while we'll need to adjust it as we get closer but the first idea on winter is for plenty of cold.
