DOES ELKMONT'S WEATHER GO BOOM ON THURSDAY?

A severe weather POTENTIAL is on the table..but this is under one condition. IF the early morning rains and clouds clear and sunshine breaks through, the worse the weather will likely be. however...IF the rain/cloud linger..the severe threat will greatly diminish.

Early Thursday Morning (4am – 10am):
Strong thunderstorms with the threat of damaging winds, hail and a low threat for tornadoes.

Thursday Evening (8pm – Midnight):
Redevelopment of thunderstorms is expected. The primary hazards will be tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds, with the greatest risk of tornadoes Thursday evening, especially west of Interstate 65.
The entire Tennessee Valley should be clear of rain and storms by 12 p.m. Friday.

All Day Thursday and Thursday Night:
In addition, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect from late Wednesday through early Friday morning. Heavy rainfall with approximately 2-4 inches of rain.

ELKMONT WEATHER TODAY

This morning we have a spring breeze around 5-10 mph, but by the afternoon winds should be closer to 15 mph. Highs will warm into the mid 70s as skies become mostly cloudy.

Many will stay dry this afternoon and evening with storms ongoing to our west. During the overnight hours, a round of showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds of 35-40 mph will move across the area.

RED DEVILS FALL IN FIRST ROUND OF COUNTY TOURNAMENT

Elkmont suffered a tough loss in the first round of the County Tournament, falling 3-2 to Tanner in a physical game played at East Limestone.

Elkmont got on the scoreboard first with Luis Valencia’s goal. Alex Alavarado added a goal, and Tee Boyd had four saves on goal including a huge save on a penalty kick.

Typically relying on speed and finesse, the Kicking Red Devils showed some toughness against the Rattlers that really fired up the crowd. Elkmont continued tournament play at 7:45 pm on Tuesday against Ardmore.

Will Ferguson and Shae LeSuer were married yesterday, March 26.  The high school sweethearts tied the knot after eight years of growing up together. Hill Spirit always thinks of the trees you see in the woods that grow up together, weaving their branches and becoming a single tree when such couples marry.

The happy couple will honeymoon in Hawaii.  Hill Spirit prays they will have a long and blessed life together.

EASTER WEATHER

Rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected to start late this morning/early afternoon and through the early overnight hours.

The chances for severe thunderstorms continues to diminish but we still cannot rule out an isolated severe storm or a few strong ones, especially in NW Alabama and parts of southern middle Tennessee.

ELKMONT FIRE STATION OPEN HOUSE

Our Elkmont fire fighters have dreamed, planned and saved for decades to build a new fire station on Sandlin Road.  Each chicken stew or bean day brought them closer to that day.  They put shovel to ground on May 21, 2015 in a ground breaking ceremony

As the months passed by, the station slowly took shape. Dirt was moved.

 Concrete was poured.
The trucks rolled in with boxes and beams

The  station is 7200 square feet and has 3 bay doors facing the south and 2 facing the north on the back side.  There is a main lobby entrance, offices, bathrooms, meeting room and kitchen on the right or east of the bay doors with a southern exposure.

They were able to add some wonderful touches to make it one of a kind, a home away from home for our volunteers that are ready to protect the Elkmont community each day.

They are now ready to show off the new station and would like to invite you to the Open house for Elkmont's new fire station this Saturday, March 26, from 10am-2pm.

There will be hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, cake and drinks for all their guests. Everyone is welcome to come and look around. Grab a friend and visit with your neighbors at our newest Elkmont treasure.

BARRY'S CORNER - LIVING IN ELKMONT

Went over today and ran the McKay Hollow course on Monte Santo again. Every time I am able to see more and more of the evidence of God and His creation when I am on the trail. A friend made the remark that "all of this and some still believe there is no God!"

As we were running we were talking about worship and how great it would be to have a worship service out among the rock formations and the colors that are there. "How great Thou art" came to mind when I was on my way home. "I Stand in Awe" also came to mind. We see so much daily, but getting out into untouched earth where majestic rock formations and great views are everywhere takes this soul on an inward journey. Be concerned, but not burdened. Be cautious, but be optimistic. Don't worry. This world may be in turmoil, but it is in His hands! Have a good one!
